Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable devices require performance-optimized low-consumption quartz crystals

 

The need to track, analyze and share data related to personal health and fitness has driven the development of the fitness tracker and activity recorder market. They provide feedback on exercise and healthy habits and must meet the needs of amateur fitness enthusiasts and professional athletes. The main design challenge for such devices is how to provide low power and high accuracy in a cost effective manner to track general activity, specific sports, heart rate and calorie consumption.

As a terminal electronic product, smart watches sense the living environment around us, and require multiple sensor products and GPS modules. As a clock source, the patch quartz crystal oscillator has the characteristics of small size and stable frequency, and is widely used in modern communication fields and digital consumer products. Compared with the traditional smart watch, the components used inside are more complicated and diverse. The follow-up smart watch needs to be better developed, so it needs the support of more high-quality components crystal oscillator.

The functions of smart watches made by different manufacturers are not the same, but they all focus on the original intention of the watch - precise timing function. A-Crystal can provide a complete smart watch crystal solution.

 

For precise timing, A-Crystal's RTC real-time clock chip 8025T combines a 32.768KHz crystal and clock IC in a single package. Due to the advantages of small package, high integration, high precision, low power consumption. it is very suitable for smart watches. Figure 2 is its package diagram. In addition, due to the built-in crystal, the PCB circuit area can be greatly reduced, and a slimmer smart watch design can be realized. At the same time, the RX8010-SJ has been adjusted for clock accuracy before leaving the factory. Users do not need to perform circuit matching and clock adjustment, which is very convenient for mass production.




 



The RX-8010SJ accurately counts seconds, minutes, hours, days of the week, months and years, with a leap year compensation function that can be timed up to 2099. In addition to the basic functions of timing and calendar, it also has functions such as timer interrupt, alarm clock, fixed period interrupt, frequency missing detection, frequency output, and user RAM. The MCU reads and writes data through the I2C bus interface. EPSON provides software reference programs, hardware reference circuits, and application manuals. It is very convenient for engineers to develop.
